The outside recess position if positioned approx 100mm above the recess will give you a nice pelmet when the roman blind is in the up position minimising the loss of natural light and creating a tapestry effect when in the down position. Inside the window recess if you leave your blinds down most of the time then fitting inside the recess can be the smarter choice.

Mounting a roman shade outside the window frame requires 2 to 3 of wall above the top window trim.

Inside mount blinds are often flush with the window s opening and do not cover up the trim.
